About Mama

TRINIDAD B. DESUYO, 97, more commonly known as ‘Mama’, ‘Mama Desuyo’, or ‘Grandma’, died March 29, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Nursing Home.

TRINIDAD was born on February 14, 1911 in Manila, Philippines. Her parents passed away while she was a very young girl, Trinidad grew up with a family member. Trinidad lived in the Philippines with her husband, WILLIAM DESUYO and 7 children before migrating to the United States and settling in Jacksonville, Florida in 1972.

TRINIDAD was a wife, and stay at home mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She was a business owner in her younger years in the Philippines. Trinidad was an active church member and the first choir member at the First Baptist Church of Manila while living in the Philippines. Upon her move to Jacksonville, Florida, she was a long time church member and choir member at West Meadows Baptist Church in the mid 1970’s through the mid 1980’s.

For 18 years TRINIDAD served along side Pastor Charles Lawhon with the Seamen’s Fellowship Ministry visiting and ministering to the Filipinos and other nationalities around the Greater Jacksonville Area. Through that ministry, she helped establish the First Filipino Mission Fellowship, which is now known as the Filipino International Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. From 1992 till her recent passing, Trinidad was a member of The Church at Argyle. Trinidad loved God first and foremost, she was dedicated to her family and was very proud of the abundance of family and friends that God truly blessed her with.

TRINIDAD is survived by 4 children, ROLLY & NOR VELASQUEZ, SAM & DAISY DESUYO, TINA DESUYO, and JIM DESUYO. Trinidad has 36 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren (not including 2 that will be adopted this year), and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

TRINIDAD is predeceased by her husband, WILLIAM DESUYO on September 28, 1982, 2 infants, and 1 daughter, LEONIE MAYO on December 9, 1995.

TRINIDAD’s services will be held at THE CHURCH AT ARGYLE. Officiating minister – PASTOR KEN DYAL. PALLBEARERS include her grandchildren, MIKE MAYO, DANNY MAYO, JAY BAMBA, SAM DESUYO JR, SAL DESUYO, NINO DESUYO, ROMMEL GARCIA, and WILLIAM GARCIA.
